Since October 2023, the OC Lions Foundation (OCLF) has been providing vital financial support to 50 children whose family members are affected by cancer. This initiative, supported logistically by the Indira Cancer Trust, ensures that all students are monitored closely, with their academic performance recorded and made available to our generous donors.
OCLF committed to supporting an additional 25 students who are in urgent need of financial assistance starting from June 2024. These students have been identified and verified, but their current sponsorships have lapsed due to various reasons. Your support can make a significant difference in their lives.
Based on the recent survey conducted by ICT volunteers covering all 75 students currently sponsored by our program.
Here are some key highlights from the survey:
- Satisfactoriness of Overall Health: 88% of the students are in satisfactory health.
- School Attendance: 97% of the children regularly attend school.
- Engagement in Extracurricular Activities: 47% of the students participate in extracurricular activities.
- Use of Financial Assistance: 85% of the funds have been primarily used for educational expenses.
- Additional Educational Expenses: 51% of the students require additional support for their educational needs.
The cost of sponsoring one child is $70.00, which covers SLR 2,000 per month and SLR 5,000 for year-end school supplies, including wire transfer fees, from June through December 2024. Thanks to our dedicated volunteers who handle all administrative tasks, there are no additional administration fees.
Each child’s profile, including their picture, family information, and contact details, will be provided to respective donors, allowing you to develop a personal connection if you wish.
How can you help
- Sponsor a child or multiple children by donating $ 70.00 to cover the scholarship cost from June through December 2024 (Scholarship recipients receive SRL 2,000 / month and SRL 5,000 at the end of the year to purchase school supplies for following year. Each student is monitored monthly by the volunteers based in Sri Lanka. Summarized report is available to respective donors.
- Contribute any amount over $ 5.00 to delinquent fund to cover the cost of existing scholarships that are not funded due to various reasons.
