OC Lions Completes Successful Feeding of 500 Homeless in 2024

The OC Lions once again made a remarkable impact on the homeless community by successfully distributing 500 lunch packets in Los Angeles on July 13th, 2024. Since 2007, the organization has provided meals to those in need, with the exception of a brief pause during the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s event took place at the Sri Rathana International Buddhist Center in Anaheim, where volunteers gathered early in the morning to prepare the meals.

By 7:00 AM, a dedicated team of volunteers began assembling the lunch packets, which included a sandwich, fruit, water, and other essentials. By 9:30 AM, 500 meals were ready and loaded into vehicles for delivery. Distribution commenced in downtown Los Angeles at 12:30 PM, where many recipients expressed deep gratitude for the much-needed assistance.

This effort, though modest in scale, makes a significant difference in the lives of those facing hardship. It underscores the importance of community service in improving the well-being of individuals in need.

The 2024 project was spearheaded by four dedicated project managers: Vidu Walahanduwa, Tenuli Mendis, Semiya Jayasinghe, and Mihindee Hettiarachchi. They coordinated the initiative from start to finish, from securing donors and conducting weekly meetings to ensuring the smooth execution of the event.

The OC Lions’ long-standing commitment to helping the homeless continues to inspire, showcasing the power of collective action in making a positive difference in the community.
